Value energy over time
Leaders always want more time.
More time to plan, prioritise, prep.
More time with their people.
More time with their customers.
And there are strategies we work on to maximise their time. To delegate more, prioritise the critical few goals, say no to non value-add meetings.
But it's not really time they're in need of, it's energy.
Energy is more important by far.
You could spend hours with someone and not be fully invested. You could get distracted by phone alerts, a work e-mail, or something you're planning at the weekend.
Or you could give someone 20 minutes and focus on them. Be fully present, solve the challenge faster.
Where you choose to put your energy is important. Because you can run out of energy and feel like you're flagging even when time is on your side.
So how do you keep energy and focus high:
- sleep more
- set boundaries with your PA and team about how much you'll travel during the week
- know which work activities boost/ drain your energy and mix them up throughout the day
- take short breaks
- leave 5/10 min gaps between meetings to give yourself an opportunity to re-focus
- have a clear intention for each meeting - what you want to get out of it
What else is there? What do you do during your working day to keep energy high? Hit reply and let me know.
P.S. Maybe it's not more time you need, it's more energy. Look at your habits this week - what could you do differently to create more energy in your day?
